unlikely rewards. Most people think about Hawaii, and all they see is a beach. We discovered what everyone should see when they hit Maui, UPPER MAUI. If you don't see the heart of Maui then you are getting robbed.

DONT OVERCORRECT

What do you do when you crash into a 2 ton lava rock in the middle of nowhere? You die, probably by the looks of this car, or bail and forget where your car was????

Thats the only way to go on the backroads of Maui. The southside of the island is in need of a wrecker service in a bad way! The only problem is, how do you get some of the cars out of a 2,000 ft canyon?

LAVA FIELDS

On the southside of Maui, there is not a name for the 45 miles we drove, we first came upon lava fields. There is hardly any houses, no hotels, and the beaches are untouched.

ON TOP OF MAUI

Tuesday started a little different than usual. Today we decided to get in the car, and drive up to the top of Maui. The goal was getting to the Seven Sacred Pools. We made it, and had some interesting things come up along the way.

VIEW FROM A NEW HOUSE

The view from our new house, yea. This is a neighborhood that we stumbled into. This is the view from a house that was for sale. We called on it, hmmm. Ok, a house that was built in the 70's, 10 miles from the beach, has not been upgraded EVER, and only has 2100 square feet is $850,000!!!!!!

SURFS UP

Early on Monday, there was a good swell hitting the north shore near Hapika. The waves started out at about 8-10ft, coming in double overhead bars. It was pretty freaking crazy. Every person boarding was a local, so I was getting schooled for sure.

I got up on 5 really sweet rides. The wind picked up, the locals bailed, and the swells shrank in size and frequency. After 2 hours of the most exhausting workout possible, I decided to bail. These pics of the waves dont really do the first swells any justice, but this is the spot.

HANA HIGHWAY SURF

When in Maui, and you hit the north shore for the best waves, make sure you stop in at the Hana Highway Surf store to get your rental.

MAUI WOWIE

Aloha from Maui. We are here now and the jet lag is worn off. Today was a relaxing day. We drove up to Lanaia and Kapalua. We had breakfast and watched football (5 hour time difference puts the noon game on at 7AM here!)

We strolled some of the shops and galleries in Lanaia. Pretty cool to see some Jerry Garcia and John Lennon originals.

The afternoon Amber laid out at the pool and I spent about 1.5 hours snorkeling the reef. I need to get an underwater camera because there was way to many cool fish I cannot do justice by describing.
This is in Lanai at the main town square.















This is how we are rolling in Maui. They hooked us up with a new Rubicon. It is the new Wrangler body style (extended, longer body) with maxed out 4WD, Axle Lock, Sound Bar, and Fog Lamps. If it only had a power roof, locks, and windows...

My B&B, at the fair, were so excited. They were very good, had their fill of cotton candy, dizzying rides, a haunted house, and livestock that 2 little kids can handle.

The girls (all of them) took a ride down the big slide at the fair. After a little flirting with the carney, wendy and amber got to ride for free.

At the fair, where else will you find monkeys in Lubbock, the girls got a chance to get a pic with the monkey.

THIS MAN IS SAVING INNOCENT LIVES BY TAKING SCUM OFF THE EARTH. HE IS COMPASSIONATE, SINCERE, and DOG THE BOUNTY HUNTER TRIES TO GET THESE PEOPLE ON THE RIGHT PATH!!!!


Not sure you have heard about this issue, but Dog the Bounty Hunter was arrest yesterday on kidnapping charges. This stems from the arrest of Andrew Luster. Luster was being accused of rape and fled the country. Dog and his crew tracked down Luster in Mexico and detained him. They then turned him over to the authorities at which point Dog and his crew were arrested as well for kidnapping. Dog and his crew track down a serial rapist in Luster, who was later sent back to the US for trial. Luster was convicted on 3 counts of aggravated rape and sentenced to 124 years in prison which he is currently serving.

3 years later the US government upheld Mexico’s request to have Dog and his crew extradited back to Mexico to stand trial for KIDNAPPING charges. Dog is currently waiting on his extradition hearing.

There is no way our US government should allow this to happen. Dog and his crew helped the government bring justice to 3 families, something our own government could not do. Dog did something no one else would do and that is track down this creep. They should tell Mexico where to put it and let Dog continue to do the great job he does getting criminals off the street.

You do not want to send this message to future criminals: “go to Mexico and no one will come find you”.

Also, how can the government turn their back on a US citizen who has done so much to get criminals off the street, but yet they send more and more troops over seas to restore and protect other countries. They need to stand up for a fellow American and say NO to Mexico.

There was Ollie in front of God and country getting the third degree, but what he said was stunning!

He was being drilled by a senator; "Did you not recently spend close to $60,000 for a home security system?"

Ollie replied, "Yes, I did, Sir."

The senator continued, trying to get a laugh out of the audience "Isn't that just a little excessive?"

"No, sir," continued Ollie.

"No? And why not?" the senator asked.

"Because the lives of my family and I were threatened, sir."

"Threatened? By whom?" the senator questioned.

"By a terrorist, sir" Ollie answered.

"Terrorist? What terrorist could possibly scare you that much?"

A PIXEL IN TIME [ 1977 to be exact ]

A picture is worth a thousand words, that's how the saying goes, but the truth is; pictures are priceless. The value of a picture has evolved over the last 100 years into a medium of communication much deeper than the pixels it shows.

Who would have ever guessed that way back in 1977 a Kodak moment could be seen the way it is today. The idea of a picture (usually reserved for a worn out photo album in the bottom of an old chester drawer in the guest room or attic) having such distinctive meaning was as likely as Elvis still being alive.

These pictures I scanned in to keep them as safe and accessible as the ones I take from our digital camera. Other than a little color quality, you can hardly tell a difference.

Lot's of people ask me why I spend time posting to this blog. I have not always had a firm answer of why I do, but there has been a constant attraction to keep it fresh. Now, after seeing these pics and being captivated by the emotion they can produce, I know exactly why.
I want to be able to share the blessings, warn of danger, comfort, and ultimately maintain / grow bonds with family and friends where distance or history has been a challenge.


So, when I post pictures of family, crabs, golf greens, cars, rain, snow, etc - just know that in 30 more years every single one will be as vivid as event itself. It will remind us of the silly things we did or loved to do. It will serve as evidence that all the wonderful things you heard growing up did happen and hopefully will help you forget the less wonderful ones. (have you ever noticed that even when you look at a picture of somebody, and they were not smiling, you will are?) Whether your 4 or 104 - enjoy.
